Here you can step ashore straight into history: 37. Sotekanalen and Söö: Enjoy a pleasant cruise through the pretty Sote Canal. Watch the sun go down over the sea, why not from a warm flat rock on Söö? The best view of all is from the big Bronze Age cairn at the top. 38. Ulön: Two islands that have now coalesced into one, with a charming cultural landscape and sandy beaches. But among the beautiful flora and the old stone walls there are chippings from a bygone age of quarrying. And on the sandy beach, buttons from nineteenth-century naval uniforms can turn up, reminders of old sea battles. 39. Saltskär: An islet with a remarkable seamark, which changes shape as you pass by - several times! A highlight among Gustaf von Heidenstam's achievements. 40. Hamnholmen: Together with Skutholmen and Vedholmen one of the earliest known harbours along the Great Channel. Here you can find the largest number of maritime inscriptions anywhere on the west coast. They date chiefly from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, when trade between Norway, Archangel and the Continent blossomed. 41. Hamnerö: A small island with a sheltered natural harbour and a little sandy beach. At the head of the bay there are two little nineteenth-century cottages used by the people of Fjällbacka during the lobster season. |
