Bissen - Tjurholmen

Here you can step ashore straight into history:

49. Bissen: Deserted island with remains of fishermen's sheds and overnight huts. The channel between Bissen and Resö would have been full of lobster corves.

50. Långesand, Rossö: Quiet, peaceful community with jetties and boathouses facing Rossö Sound. Who would imagine that in the 1920s this was Sweden's second biggest lobstering centre?

51. Ursholmen: A little island far out in the west, which acquired its first lighthouse 1891. Sea, wind and the bare rock crossed by its wide streaks of black diabase, "the Devil's harrow drag".

52. Nord Öddö: Just off the sandy beach can be seen the terrace of an old herring-curing house. Follow the path to the west beach through the overgrown gravefield.

53. Syd Långö: west side: In the nineteenth century a centre of herring processing with a state herring oil and guano works. Ruins of one of the main industrial epochs of the west coast.

54. Syd Långö: east side: Facing Långörännan, an important channel even in the Bronze Age, lie the remains of a large number of stone huts. They may have been used from the Viking Age right up to the twentieth century. On Syd Långö they are unusually distinct.

55. Tjurholmen: Generous beach, sheltered by the rocks. On the western summit one of the border beacons erected after the dissolution of the Swedish-Norwegian union in 1905. From here there is a wonderful view across the Norwegian islands and this is the end of the Blue Skagerrak Trail - or the beginning if you are sailing south!
